Microdermabrasion is a safe, non-surgical, "lunch hour" procedure that provides
many benefits. Microdermabrasion reduces or eliminates
fine facial lines, wrinkles, and other signs of aging; it improves the
appearance of acne scars and other light scarring; and it gives
skin of all colors and types a fresh, healthy-looking glow. It does all this
with virtually no side effects. And because microdermabrasion
uses non-allergenic crystals to treat the skin, it is an excellent treatment for
skin that is sensitive to chemicals. Microdermabrasion does
not present any serious risks when it is performed by a qualified provider. Some
people may experience slight skin irritation after
microdermabrasion. Since everyone's skin and health history differ to some
degree, the risks and benefits of microdermabrasion must be
considered on a case-by-case basis.

MICRODERMABRASION Q&A:
How will my skin feel after the procedure?
Your skin will feel super clean and like something has been done to it.
Normal reactions include:
- redness and/or slight swelling
- your skin may feel hot
- your skin may feel a little tender to the touch (ie. mild wind burn feeling,
mild sunburned feeling)
The above reactions are quite normal and may subside within a couple of hours
and up to 48hrs. Cold water and cold compresses
will help.
Will the procedure hurt?
Not typically. Microdermabrasion is meant to be a progressive treatment not
aggressive.
If it hurts, the technician may have the machine set too high. Have open
communication and let he/she know.
How long between sessions?
Typically, you will have a session every 4-6 weeks. If you've decided to have a
series, then you will have the sessions
two weeks apart for the duration of the series. Then, you will go on a
maintanance program: a session every 4-6 weeks.
Is a series necessary?
A series is highly recommended for those looking for effective, long term
results. One session will yield short term results.
Six to eight micro sessions equal to a chemical peel without the down time,
pain, and risks.
Is this procedure safe?
It is safe. This is a mechanical exfoliation vs a chemical exfoliation.
Therefore, you are not exposed to any chemicals
that may cause residual harm. It is important to make sure that the technician
has had proper training, education, and
experience. He/she may cause topical harm to your skin if they do not know what
they are doing such as:
Capillary activity, over exfoliation, and bruising.
What type of products should I use after the procedure?
Remember that homecare is the back bone to any facial therapy. Choose
professional, high quality products to
obtain the best results. After microdermabrasion avoid any Alpha Hydroxy
products, Retina, Obage, etc to avoid reactions.
